A Simple Tip to Draw Daisies that Pop
I’ve been drawing flowers since I was old enough to hold a pencil. But I still learn things from time to time that seem so simple but make a big difference.
I figured out one of those big/little things this week.
White flowers pop off the page more when they aren’t on a white page.
I know, it’s so obvious. But it never occurred to me until this week.
So I tried it out on daisies with a graphite pencil.
Here’s how they looked before I darkened their background.
Be sure to check out the video if you want tips and a demonstration of how I drew these.
Next, I shaded around the flowers.
What a difference.
I added some little shadows to the leaves too. They definitely add to the effect!
I want to try this technique on dogwood flowers next. And white roses, spring beauties, lily of the valley… oh, the options.
Do you have any little drawing tips that make a big difference? I’d love to hear them!
Blessings,
